About Me
I, Charles Flinders (or Charlie), was born in Plymouth, grew up just west of Glasgow and have called Edinburgh my home for the last 18 years.

I have absolutely no formal art training although an Engineering degree meant I did a fair bit of technical drawing. I took to drawing and painting properly in 2020 as a way to unwind during the pandemic and found ink and watercolour art suited me perfectly. I like to leave lots of space in the painting and have gained a lot of experience in knowing when the piece is 'done' - overworking is the enemy and can spoil a perfectly good drawing! I don't capture every single detail but I capture enough to give the viewer the right idea and the opportunity to fill in the blanks. As my artist friend and ink and wash legend John Harrison says 'we're not applying for planning permission here'.

Since starting my journey I'm proud that I've developed my craft from absolutely nothing into a 'serious' business. I sketch subjects from around the world which I share on Instagram (@crmflinders), I have a book of my sketches, I've been commissioned to paint for magazines in the US and have hosted multiple ink and watercolour workshops and demos. I didn't think I'd be writing that 6 years ago and I have you all to thank for it. By far the best of all is that I've made some excellent friendships along the way.

Please get in touch to discuss my originals, commissions, workshops etc, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Charlie
